Rolls Royce 20/25 4D6L
Maythorn Limousine
6 Cylinder in-line 3,700cc producing 25 HP. Not the BHP of today though, it’s like shackling 25 real horses to the front of the car. 4 speed ‘Crash’ gearbox with no synchromesh at all, making the car very difficult to drive. In fact in those days the driver had to attend a two week course at Rolls Royce!
Drum brakes all round, but the front brakes are powered by a clutch off the final drive, so they only work when the car is in motion.
Maximum Speed is 50 MPH and the car returns just 12-14 MPG.
Out of all the 20/25s made by Rolls Royce, only 38 were bodied with Maythorn Coachwork, making this a very rare car.
(1931)
Technical Data:-
The car was initially purchased in 1931 by Dr. Harrold Spitta who was the Bacteriologist to King Edward VII, Queen Alexandra, King George V and Princess Beatrice.
